Well what a day we’ve had. 37 boats, with 13 in the Training fleet turned up for some blustery conditions for the South Wales Club Youth Racing Circuit hosted at Mumbles Yacht Club.
The morning gave the main fleet 3 races in challenging conditions on the main race course, with some very large gusts nearly causing some delays across the race course but not quite. Average wind was around 18kts with some gusts measuring 27kts, with the waves picking up a little
The fleet sailed admirably, not put off by the wind, rain and at times low visibility for a few minutes. Most managed to stay upright, and from the committee boat the starts looked very good!
Regatta fleet also took some punishing winds on their race course, with all braving the conditions and going around the course, with the race committee making the tough decision to abandon the racing on that race course and give the tired sailors a rest! Some braved the main race course and did well.
All in all, a great day I think was had by all. Congratulations to all of the sailors who went out, and thanks to all of the race and safety crew on the water, and all of the shore side helpers.
Congratulations to all of the winners, Ben, Will, Ewan, James, Aled, James, John and Georgia, and special congratulations to Sophie and Katie who turned the afternoon around and did some great sailing in the Feva with the kite up, earning them the most improved sailor award.
